גְבִיָה: 2 Piece Puzzles

Two pieces sounds like a ten-second job. With a good design it is not. Every puzzle here is built from just two parts, and the challenge comes from how those parts are allowed to move, not from how many there are.

Where to start

The 2 Piece Pyramid and Newton's Gravity Defying Puzzle are rated Easy and make a good first step. The Impossible Dovetail Box and Hedgehog in a Cage ask a different question: how to take apart something that looks like it cannot come apart.

For the hardest two-piece puzzle in the store, try Lucida, rated Hard. The two-piece TICs, like EcstaTIC and EmphaTIC, turn two pieces into a solid cube through a sequence of rotations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are two-piece puzzles easy?

Not always. Here they range from Easy, like the 2 Piece Pyramid, to Hard, like Lucida. With so few pieces, the difficulty comes from the one move or angle you have not tried yet.

What does 2+1 mean?

Two pieces plus a box, frame or tray. The extra part is not something you assemble, it is the space the pieces have to fit into, and it is usually what makes the puzzle hard.

What is a TIC puzzle?

A Turning Interlocking Cube - or TIC - is a 3D mechanical puzzle where pieces must be rotated in a precise sequence to disassemble and reassemble a cube. What makes TIC puzzles special is that although every single one ends in the same shape, the sequence of moves to get there is completely different each time. Same cube. Totally different journey. Every TIC you pick up is a new challenge you haven't solved before.
