Daily Pentomino
The rule
Fit all twelve pentominoes into the board. Four squares are blocked off, which leaves exactly sixty: twelve pieces of five.
Tap a piece to pick it up, then tap the board to drop it. It lands with the top left corner of its shape on the square you tapped. Rotate and flip apply to whichever piece is held. Tap a piece already on the board to take it out again.
The blocked squares move every day, so the same twelve pieces have to be arranged a different way each time.
Where to start
Corners and the squares beside the blocked ones are the tight spots, so fill those first and leave the open middle until last. The X, the one shaped like a plus, is the most awkward piece in the set because it cannot sit against an edge. Place it early rather than discovering at the end that nowhere is left for it.
In your hands
This is a packing puzzle, the same instinct as fitting pieces into a tray or a box. See the packing puzzles, or the pentomino solver if you would rather watch it done.
Every Board Has an Answer
Blocking four squares at random usually makes a board that cannot be filled at all, and proving that takes longer than finding an answer does. So each board here was kept only after a solver had actually found a way to fill it. None of these is a dead end, however hopeless it feels when there is one piece and one gap left that do not match.
There is usually more than one answer, which is the difference between this and the logic puzzles on the site. It is a packing challenge, not a deduction: any legal way of getting all twelve in counts.
