ElfTIC - A 4x4x4 Turning Interlocking Cube by Andrew Crowell

ElfTIC is a Turning Interlocking Cube puzzle designed by Andrew Crowell, one of the foremost names in TIC puzzle design. Your goal is simple to state: fit all the pieces together into a 4x4x4 cube. Actually doing it is another matter entirely.

What Is a TIC Puzzle?

A Turning Interlocking Cube - or TIC - is a type of interlocking puzzle where pieces do not simply slide in and out. They turn. That single twist changes everything. Pieces that look like they should fit... don't. Moves that seem like they should work... won't. The geometry that makes a TIC puzzle function is exactly what makes it so difficult to solve.

Standard interlocking puzzles reward spatial thinking. TIC puzzles demand it at a deeper level. You are not just finding the right position for each piece. You are finding the right sequence of rotations to get there.

What Makes ElfTIC Special

ElfTIC requires 16 total moves to assemble. The last piece alone takes 11 moves to place correctly. That is not a typo. Eleven moves for a single piece in a 4x4x4 cube.

That last piece is the whole puzzle. You can work your way through the first pieces with patience and logic - and then the final piece arrives and everything you thought you understood gets tested. The path to the solution is narrow. Miss a step and you are back to the beginning.

The cube measures 60x60x60mm - compact, solid, and satisfying to handle. It ships assembled, so you can study the finished form before you ever take it apart. That first disassembly is part of the solve.

Who Is ElfTIC For?

ElfTIC is built for puzzlers who already know they love interlocking puzzles and want something with genuine depth. If you have worked through a few standard burr or interlocking cube puzzles and found yourself wanting more - more moves, more complexity, more of that specific satisfaction when a sequence finally clicks - this is the next step.

It is also an ideal introduction to TIC puzzles specifically. Andrew Crowell's designs are precise and purposeful. Nothing about ElfTIC is accidental. The difficulty is built in from the ground up, not bolted on.

Andrew Crowell

Andrew Crowell has built a reputation around Turning Interlocking Cubes. His puzzles are known for elegant mechanisms and move sequences that feel surprising even when you are the one executing them. ElfTIC is a strong example of what makes his work worth collecting.

A Puzzle Worth Owning

ElfTIC sits in a specific spot in any serious collection - it is not decorative filler and it is not an entry-level warm-up. It is a focused, well-designed challenge that rewards time spent with it. If you care about TIC puzzles, this one belongs on your shelf.

FAQ

Do You Ship Worldwide?

Yes. I ship anywhere. Orders typically arrive in 1-3 weeks depending on your location and how customs is behaving.

How Long Does Processing Take?

Some puzzles are produced on demand in our studio in Czech Republic. Processing usually takes 3-5 days before your order ships. During busier seasons it may take a bit longer.

Do Puzzles Come With Solutions?

Usually not. Sometimes you can find the solution on my YouTube channel. If not, feel free to reach out for hints!

What If I Get Stuck?

Good. That's the whole point.

But if "stuck" turns into "frustrated and not having fun anymore," email me. I'll send you a hint if you want a nudge. No judgment. Some puzzles took me days. A few took weeks. Some took months. Some took years. And some I have never solved - and that is part of the appeal.

Returns & Exchanges

Yes. You have 30 days. If the puzzle isn't right for you, send it back in the condition you got it and I'll refund you. If something arrived damaged or wrong, tell me and I'll fix it. Please be patient as we're a small team!

Are These Good Gifts?

People LOVE buying our puzzles as gifts. They're physical, they last forever, they don't need batteries, and they create a real moment - the person sits down, struggles, laughs, eventually solves it. That memory sticks.

If you're gifting, check the difficulty rating and pick something one notch below what you think the person can handle. Easier than you'd guess is usually the right call.

How Are the Puzzles Made?

All the puzzles are made with the help of my partner Puzzle Guy and his 3D printing studio in Czech Republic.

What Is a TIC Puzzle?

TIC stands for Turning Interlocking Cubes. They're a family of puzzles where wooden pieces interlock and rotate into a cube shape. The solve isn't just sliding pieces - you have to find the right rotations, in the right order. They're some of my favorite puzzles in the store.

Why Is Everything Turquoise?

I grew up near the sea in Israel. When life got loud or overwhelming, that's where I went to reset. Sit, watch the water, breathe. Things would settle.

The turquoise on this site isn't a branding choice I picked from a swatch. It's that color. The one I still see when I close my eyes and think of the place that calmed me down. I want you to feel a small version of that when you pick up a puzzle - a quiet moment, hands busy, head clear.
